Production Manager

Hydro is one of the main suppliers of aluminium extrusions committed to delivering high finish products to the automotive and engineering industries within the UK and European markets. Due to our on-going expansion, we are currently looking for a Production Manager within our General Engineering & Fabrication department to join our fast paced manufacturing site in Bedwas, Caerphilly.

Role Purpose:
To ensure the lean running of production related activities and that manufacturing processes run safely, reliably, efficiently and meets the customer requirements within the General Fabrication area. To work alongside other Production Managers and Leaders to formulate objectives and understand requirements so to oversee the whole of the Production process and achieve targets.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
1. Actively create and achieve plans alongside the Planner for production and forecasting needs.
2. Responsible for weekly forecast plans for manning and to adjust these to the needs of the plant.
3. Liaise and work closely alongside the Planning and Logistics dept to ensure correct forecasting figures for production outputs.
4. Responsible for all production areas and aspects including shop floor layout, Health and Safety, Quality and lean manufacturing.
5. To manage and facilitate Shift Supervisor and department team member development, including mentoring where applicable.
6. Work alongside Shift Supervisors to ensure that all training and HSE documentation records are stored confidentially (as per GDPR) and used during succession planning and identifying training needs.
7. Responsible for lean manufacturing related activities within Production areas.
8. To manage the capabilities of all Shift Supervisors.
9. To oversee and maintain the effective implementation of new starter job inductions, including supporting the buddy training system.
10. Set up KPIs for Production and report to Managing Director on weekly / monthly basis.
11. Report Production outcome daily, weekly and monthly to Management in accordance to Hydro Procedure.
12. Book Production activities correctly via the ERP system.
13. Establish and maintain effective production flow and identify improvements as and when required.
14. Ensure all parts are produced in accordance with quality requirements and actively identify and set up alternative production processes if quality is not achieved.
15. Ensure that all health, safety and environmental standards and procedures are fully maintained throughout the plant and that these are seen as a priority for Area Managers and teams.
16. To thoroughly prepare for daily meetings and weekly Management and Labour Requirement Meetings.
17. Support Engineering and New Product Introduction, attending launch meetings.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
1. Previous managerial experience within the automotive industry is desirable.
2. Previous experience of managing and motivating a team within a production environment preferred. A demonstrated ability as a leader, with developing skills and an ability to work effectively with staff in a range of functions and at all levels within the business.
3. Experience in continuous improvement, problem solving and change management in an industrial environment.
4. IOSH Safety certification advantageous.
5. Good level of MS office and IT competence, including MS Office programs.
6. Previous experience in SAP (or equivalent ERP system) would be advantageous.
7. Good English skills both orally and written.
8. ILM qualifications or equivalent would be advantageous.
9. Organised and structured way of working.
10. Ability to work independently and lead a team effectively.
11. Good work ethic and a “Can do” attitude.
12. Demonstrate the Hydro values.

14. Good work ethic and drive to complete work.
15. Ability and willingness to travel and full valid driving licence.
16. Driving licence and confidence to travel is desirable.
