Job overview
As part of an expanding dynamic Logistics team, the successful candidate will be required to supervise the Band 2 and Band 3 Pharmacy Assistants within the Pharmacy Logistics room, as well as the Distribution Assistants in the absence of the Distribution Supervisor.
The role will require excellent attention to detail, time management, and would ideally suit someone who has a methodical approach. As the workload can vary throughout the day, the successful candidate will need to be able to work well under pressure in a fast-paced, changing environment, but also be able to manage and utilize staff within the team effectively during quieter spells.
Ideally, you will also need to have a proactive and flexible approach to work, whilst having the ability to appropriately delegate workload to the wider Logistics and Distribution teams to meet tight deadlines.
Communication is vital in this role, as you will constantly be interacting with staff both within and outside of the organization, as well as liaising with patients and relatives regarding the collection/delivery of their medication.
With this being a supervisory role, there will also be full training provided (if required) to assist with various HR aspects, such as Staff Appraisals and supporting staff following a return to work after sickness absence.
Main duties of the job
The role will primarily require organizing the transportation of medicinal products off-site, and, in and around the retained estate of the hospital through the use of approved couriers and porters.
Due to the nature of this role, it will be vital to have awareness of legislation and guidance in place such as the requirements of GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and GDP (Good Distribution Practice), of which, appropriate training will be provided. As we also supply external entities and other hospitals you would also need knowledge and awareness of the requirements for supply medication under a Wholesale Distribution Authorization – WDA(h).
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Supervise the day-to-day operation of the Pharmacy Logistics team under the guidance of the Logistics Co-Ordinator and Lead Technician for Distribution or Logistics, including assisting with training of staff, processing returned medication, and maintaining accurate databases.
Assist with all aspects of HR and recruitment (including but not limited to staff appraisals, sickness absence management, capabilities and disciplinary procedures and processes as required by the Trust).
Support the Senior Assistant Technical Officers (SATOs) in providing a safe and efficient service, ensuring that all work is prioritized accordingly and completed at the end of each day, and that any problems or queries are resolved in a timely manner.
Carry out duties in support of the Pharmacy Service in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.
Ensure safe storage and secure handling of Pharmacy products in Pharmacy and at ward level, including the completion of regular ward storage audits of both ambient and refrigerated items.
Ensure compliance with Good Distribution Practice (EU GDP 2015/C 95/01) is undertaken within the Logistics areas of NBT Pharmacy and assist with ensuring that training is provided to all operational staff involved in these activities.
