We are looking to appoint to a whole-time Locum Consultant Oral Surgeon to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based at the Charles Clifford Dental Hospital. The post includes 2 PAs of University Teaching funded by the University of Sheffield. This post is a 12-month fixed-term maternity cover, starting from 09/12/2024 and ending on 05/12/2025.

Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Main duties of the job
The appointee will, together with Consultant colleagues be responsible for the provision of the Oral Medicine Service including:
o Delivery of routine and specialist multidisciplinary care for residents of Sheffield and surrounding areas.o Teaching of dental undergraduates across all 5 years of their studies and participation in undergraduate university examinations, elective programme, personal tutor programme and interviews as required.o Teaching of postgraduates, StRs and post CCST trainees within the Dental Hospitalo Professional supervision and management of Trainees.o Conduct of their clinical practice in accordance with the principles of sound clinical governance and will take a full part in the Trust's clinical governance activities.o A commitment to continuing medical education and appraisal.
The successful candidate will work according to the terms and conditions of the national consultant contract.
About us
The appointee will, be responsible for the provision of a comprehensive, effective and modern Oral Surgery Service. They will be expected to have a high level of knowledge and expertise in the field of Oral Surgery. They should have an innovative approach to patient management and will play a key role in the management of patient referrals.
The postholder will hold the title an Honorary Senior Lecturer. Academic duties will include research, teaching in the classroom or in tutorial groups, preparation of examinations and support during the examination process. The postholder may also provide support in teaching clinics during times of absence.
The successful candidate will work flexibly and co-operatively with other members of the team to provide a high quality, comprehensive service within the Academic Directorate. They will have responsibility for the continuing care of patients under their care and the proper functioning of the department. The appointee will be required to provide cover for colleagues during periods of absence. There are no on-call responsibilities associated with this post.

* Registered (or eligible to be registered) with the GDC with a licence to practise
* Name on the Oral Surgery specialist register or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview.
* Postgraduate professional qualifications: M Oral Surgery or equivalent
