Construction Assistant
Location – Dumfries District
Salary – From £30,400 up to £38,000 per annum (Based on experience) plus excellent benefits and career progression opportunities.

Role
As our Construction Assistant you will work for the districts supporting the delivery of engineering projects and work programmes. This includes assisting the Team Leaders and Project Managers with the creation and organisation of discrete work programmes, arrangements with customers in advance of works and customer coordination.
The post holder will have a requirement to respond to several different challenges in this role. The accountabilities are varied, and a degree of experience and knowledge is required in each area to ensure effectiveness.
Operate with openness, honesty and integrity and strive to maximise productivity within the section, thus reducing the operational cost of the business.
Support delivery of a full balance of work activities, taking into account overall Energy Networks objectives and goals.
Take ownership of tasks and lead in overall objectives to improve the safety and customer service culture across the organisation.
What you'll be doing
As our Construction Assistant you will:
1. Contribute as an effective District team member.
2. Assist in the construction and design of work programs and associated engineering scheme proposals.
3. Co-ordinate with Cable Excavation Contractors to ensure work complies with standards.
4. Interface with Customer, Site Agent and Resources to ensure the progression of the project and acceptance of the work, dealing with issues as they arise.
5. Prevetting customers as per the Distribution Outage Policy (DOP).
6. Receive notification of work remotely.
7. Provide management reporting as required.
8. Provide Site support for customer enquiries and resolution of complaints.
9. Use innovative IT systems and improved processes to achieve improved efficiency and increase performance.
10. Comply with Company Health, Safety and Environmental requirements.
11. Comply with external and internal levels of service.
12. Respond appropriately to Customer Complaints, taking ownership and resolving as appropriate.
13. Deliver excellent customer service to all aspects of your operation and instil this in your team and actively promote customer service standards within the area of responsibility.
14. Ensure assigned resources are deployed to maximum effectiveness.
15. Minimise travel and non-productive time.
16. Focus on continuous improvement through quality processes.
17. Focus on minimising discretionary spend and ensure pro-active control of all costs.
What You'll Bring
As our Construction Assistant you will have:
1. Working knowledge of Energy Networks policies, procedures and working practices.
2. Working knowledge of health, safety and environmental legislation.
3. Awareness of network development policies and procedures.
4. Knowledge of network and business data and network management systems.
5. Contract & SLA management and general commercial & regulatory awareness.
6. Negotiation, communication and people motivation skills.
7. Ability to devise solutions to complex problems/challenges.
8. Resource planning and work management skills.
9. Proven experience in a relevant area.
10. Knowledge of how Energy Networks electrical network operates.
11. Knowledge of the competitive connections market.
12. NRSWA Regulations.
Minimum Criteria
1. Either a crafts qualification, apprenticeship or S/NVQ, with proven experience in a relevant area.
2. Working knowledge of company Health & Safety requirements and compliance.
3. Working knowledge of Energy Networks policies, procedures and working practices.
4. An effective and confident written and verbal communicator.
5. Computer literacy – e.g. Microsoft Office suite.
6. Driver’s license is essential.
7. Local area knowledge of Dumfries is desired.
