Job overview
Princess Anne Unit is recruiting an enthusiastic Band 5 Registered Nurse, with surgical experience. Although this role is primarily to work on the ward, we are particularly keen to hear from you if you are enthusiastic to learn new skills and gain experience in other areas of our unit such as endoscopy.
The ward is a 12 bedded day ward within the Princess Anne Unit, which also consists of an operating theatre, a recovery area, and a diagnostic endoscopy unit.
We are a small nurse led unit, and as such the successful candidate will need experience and knowledge of surgery to ensure the safety of our patients. We pride ourselves in the excellent care we give which is reflected in our patient feedback.
Working in a small, busy and modern environment within elective day surgery will enable you to balance your work life, while feeling supported to develop both personally and professionally. The specialities offered are constantly developing to meet the needs of the local communities. Current surgical specialities include General, Urology, Breast and Gynaecology.
Stroud is a beautiful market town in a semi-rural position with the added bonus of being in close proximity to the M5 motorway and has train links to London, Birmingham, Bristol & the South West. The unit is open Monday to Friday, 8am until 8pm with the bonus of plentiful, free on-site parking.
If you are not sure what we do or if the Day Surgery Unit is for you, we would welcome enquiries and visits.
Advert
The role of the Registered Nurse (RN) on the day ward requires you to function effectively as a member of the pre & post operative team to ensure the safe provision and development of an efficient and high-quality service. The unit is nurse led and as a surgical nurse you will be a key member of the Princess Anne Unit in ensuring patients receive excellent standards of care. With a broad knowledge and skill base, you will be confident in the role of the nurse looking after patients undergoing day surgery and endoscopic procedures.
We welcome applications from newly qualified nurses. Training and support will be provided, along with competency based assessments.
There is an expectation that you will have a flexible working approach to support both theatre and endoscopy, and in doing so you will contribute to the smooth running of the unit.
You will be driven to ensure the standards of care you deliver are safe, effective, current and evidenced-based, and enjoy working within a small team putting the patient at the heart of everything that you do.
The post holder will be required to participate in training, supervision and competency assessments of learners, including student nurses and other junior or inexperienced staff.
Working for our organisation
We have in excess of 5000 staff working over 50 sites, providing a diverse range of services. We strive to support an organisational culture that is welcoming, builds and celebrates inclusivity and diversity and provides a sense of belonging and trust.
The annual NHS Staff Survey gives our people the opportunity to tell us about their experience working at the Trust. For the 2023 survey just over 2800 colleagues gave us their views (58.5%). It was great to see from the results that colleagues are saying that:
* 89.7%
* 73.3%
* 82.4%
* 76.7%
Our results put us as 5th nationally as a Community, Mental Health and Learning Disabilities NHS Employer of Choice and 1st equal amongst all NHS Provider Trusts in the South West. However, we know we have more to do and will continue to drive forward our commitment to making GHC a Great Place to Work.
