We are looking for an experienced Technical Director to work on a new community which will set a new benchmark for the future of ageing and living in the UK.
The vision is to create an exemplar, inclusive, and age-friendly community through placemaking that is aspirational, that meets the needs of an increasingly ageing population through different levels of activity and care, adds to the quality of life and reduces dependency on healthcare and social services by focusing on health and well-being.
The site is a former landfill site, where the land is of poor agricultural quality (unsuitable for food production and for inhabiting wildlife). The scheme provides much needed specialist housing across a mix of housing types and tenures, together with areas of landscaping and community open space, health services and a range of amenities currently missing from Bushey.
Responsibilities:
* Encourage engineering innovation and value engineering during the design and construction process
* Provide technical expertise across all projects in supporting issues such as design problems, temporary works problems etc
* Lead in ensuring that the company has the required Quality and Technical accreditation and lead on appropriate Audits when required
* Ensure that all technical team interventions are within budgets and forecasts
* Ensure and monitor that external consultants are briefed and managed on the preparation and issue of production information in accordance with their appointment and to an agreed programme as required to meet the needs of the business.
* Ensure planning permissions and other statutory approvals e.g. S104 / S38 agreements are obtained in a timely manner.
* Provide a practical and cost-effective technical service to the company and to ensure that best practice is followed, costs are controlled, the department maximises revenue generation and contribution to the company's operating profit
* Be directly responsible for managing the professional fee budget for each development
* Be responsible for producing technical design solutions encompassing site evaluation, architectural and engineering design, the investigation of technical problems encountered and provision of economical viable resolutions
Experience/Knowledge:
* Extensive experience working at a senior level within the residential sector as either a Head of Technical / Technical Director or equivalent.
* Extensive experience required in the design, construction and delivery of Civil Engineering Infrastructure, traffic, and transportation
* Ability to critique development layouts from an urban design and engineering perspective
* Ability to critique architectural and engineering drawings
* A good knowledge and understanding of health and safety / CDM Regulations, LABC/NHBC requirements, Building Regulations, Planning System, Codes of Practice and other associated legislation connected with both house and flat construction
* Ability to develop and implement strategic plans and decisions

Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or equivalent
* Chartered Engineer (member of a professional institution)
* Current full driving licence
