Opportunity Overview: A fantastic opportunity has risen to temporarily join my client as a Compensation Controller. My client is a leading global financial services firm providing a wide range of investment banking, securities, investment management, and wealth management services. The Firm's employees serve clients worldwide including corporations, governments, and individuals from more than 1,200 offices in 43 countries.
Role Objective: The Compensation Controller team is led globally from Glasgow and is part of Global Corporate Controllers. The function is responsible for financial accounting, control, and reporting, both internal and external, related to the firm's compensation and benefit plans globally. The team members perform a variety of functions within their roles offering a breadth of experience for the right candidate. For example:
1. Financial accounting across all GAAPS and legal entities
2. Close collaboration with accounting policy on interpretation and implementation of new accounting rules or accounting analysis of new compensation arrangements
3. Involvement in firm and finance-wide initiatives as an SME with accountability for assessing, planning, and delivering all compensation & benefit related accounting and reporting impacts
4. Regulatory and statutory financial reporting at firm and subsidiary level including analysis and implementation of any new reporting requirements
5. Management reporting and forecasting for the CFO and other senior stakeholders
Key Responsibilities:
1. Manage accounting and reporting tasks associated with employee compensation (Firm's largest P&L line)
2. Review financial analysis of data in accordance with key SOX control requirements
3. Review general ledger expense and balance sheet accounts
4. Support the line management of a small team
5. Prepare insightful analysis for other groups including HR, Tax, and other teams across Finance
6. Participate in system enhancements and UAT testing
7. Adhere to, and where possible, enhance process documentation and the control environment
8. Identify and implement process efficiencies
9. Respond to and interact with key stakeholders including HR, IT, other Finance teams, Tax, and Audit
10. Undertake other ad hoc tasks as required
Requirements:
1. Fully or nearly fully qualified accountant
2. Experience in finance processes, controls, and reporting
3. Flexibility to change priorities as new situations present themselves
4. Strong communication skills; clear, concise, and appropriate method of delivery
5. Experience with establishing and meeting deadlines
6. Experience managing staff and/or reviewing the work of others
7. Risk awareness and good guardianship skills
8. Collaborative team player with a strong work ethic that works effectively in a cross-functional team environment
