Our client, a global engineering consultancy, has secured a major £100 million project within the UK water sector. To support this significant programme of work, we are seeking a Senior Process Engineer with wastewater treatment experience to lead technical delivery and innovation across multidisciplinary teams.
About the Role
This is a hybrid role, with flexibility to work between the office (Manchester or Warrington) and home. You will play a central role in delivering technical excellence across all project stages, supporting process optimisation, design leadership, and client engagement.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead technical delivery of water and wastewater treatment projects from feasibility to commissioning.
2. Produce, verify, and review key process documentation including process calculations, PFDs, equipment specifications, control philosophies, and technical reports.
3. Provide process optimisation and advisory services for new and existing facilities and pumping stations.
4. Act as Process Design Lead on multi-disciplinary projects, utilising digital design methodologies.
5. Work with internal laboratories and software teams on cutting-edge process and data optimisation solutions.
6. Coordinate with civil, mechanical, electrical, ICA, and other engineering disciplines.
7. Build strong relationships with clients and partners to support project delivery and resolve technical or commercial challenges.
8. Ensure compliance with relevant technical standards, legislation, and health, safety, and environmental objectives.
9. Mentor junior team members and contribute to performance development.
10. Support knowledge capture, innovation, and promotion of team capabilities both internally and externally.
Skills and Experience
1. Extensive experience in process plant systems and water industry engineering projects.
2. Strong knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and technologies.
3. Demonstrated leadership in multi-disciplinary project teams.
4. Experience working with digital design tools and methodologies.
5. Ability to manage technical risk and ensure quality under tight project deadlines.
Qualifications
1. Degree qualified in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline (postgraduate qualifications are a plus).
2. Chartered or working towards chartership (IChemE, CIWEM, or equivalent).
3. Membership of a relevant professional institution or actively progressing toward full membership.
