HSQE Director
An experienced health & safety leader is sought to develop and drive a collaborative safety culture and strategy, providing clear priorities and goals focused on minimising risks and environmental impact. This is a key leadership role reporting to the Group Managing Director.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement strategic plans for HSQE to drive industry-leading health, safety, environmental, and sustainability performance.
Oversee compliance and performance levels, establishing frameworks and fostering engagement at all levels.
Lead the development of Health, Safety, and Environmental policy, standards, and procedures across the business.
Manage Health, Safety, and Environmental audit and assurance activities to meet legal and insurance requirements.
Promote a strong safety culture, driving leadership initiatives and continuous improvement.
Provide leadership, support, and training in all HSQE matters for employees and subcontractors.
Conduct project and business sector HSE performance reviews, compliance evaluations, and audits.
Maintain ISO 45001, 9001, and 14001 accreditations while supporting external accreditations such as Constructionline, CHAS, and Builders Profile.
Monitor, collate, and interpret performance data, ensuring thorough close-out of inspections and accident investigations.
Review and investigate accidents, incidents, and near-miss events to identify lessons learned and implement improvements.
Manage and develop the HSQE team, providing coaching and mentoring where required.
What We’re Looking For:
Chartered Membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).
NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification.
Relevant HSQE experience in demolition, waste, recycling, or aggregate operations.
Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation, regulations, and industry best practices.
Proven experience leading HSQE within the construction and/or waste recycling industries.
Ability to implement change management initiatives and develop HSQE strategies.
Experience monitoring operating permits for recycling, waste, and aggregate sites (desirable).
Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and empower teams.
Proficiency in MS Office and HSQE management systems.Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.
