SERVICE DELIVERY 1. Implement and monitor systems and processes to ensure that patient needs are comprehensively assessed, appropriately planned, effectively implemented and evaluated according to changing health care needs and varying levels of complexity, and develop the assessment, development, implementation and delivery of agreed standards of endoscopy nursing care. 2. Implement change and best practice in terms of elective and emergency patient flow. The post holder will rotate between all areas within the endoscopy Unit, providing continuity in expertise. 3.Involve patients, relatives/carers in the planning and delivery of care, providing reassurance and support to assist their understanding and co-operation. 4.Ensure that the Endoscopy Unit is safe for practice by ensuring that cleanliness is maintained, materials and equipment are ready for use, including clearing away afterwards. 5.Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations, ensuring that others are supported to do so. 6.Collect, collate, and report information, ensuring that accurate patient records/documentation are maintained. 7. Develop and implement innovative practices within endoscopy nursing using a research-based approach. 8. Ensure that all patients receive appropriate advice on health promotion and lifestyle changes. 9.Contribute to and assist with the gathering of evidence for compliance with the Joint Advisory Group (JAG) standards. ENDOSCOPY RELATED SPECFIC SKILLS Proactively manage the planning, triage and listing of inpatient referrals, including Upper GI Bleeds Obtain informed consent from patients using advanced communication skills. Cannulate patients as required. 4. Perform and document pre-procedure assessment. Give pre-procedure advice and support and check appropriate referrals have been made to other members of the multi-disciplinary team as part of the patient pathway. 5. Assist with diagnostic and therapeutic work in the endoscopy procedure rooms. 6.Check organisation of relevant pre procedure investigations as per protocols e.g. blood tests, ECG, imaging. 7. Collate clinical information and present to Gastroenterology Consultant and Endoscopist to aid decision making in terms of suitability for procedure. 8. Provide clinical/endoscopy advice to other staff members in areas related to endoscopy and pre assessment. 9. Work with colleagues to review and develop protocols for the assessment, monitoring and management of patients referred for emergency endoscopy. GOVERNANCE Promote the individual needs of the patient, by acknowledging preferences, rights and choices, respecting privacy and dignity, and by promoting anti-discriminatory practice, alerting senior staff if patient care appears to be disrespectful or discriminatory. Establish and maintain effective communication, maintaining confidentiality of information. Continually monitor standards, by identifying risks, benchmarking, audit and research, assisting the Nurse Managers in the implementation of relevant unit plans. 4. Implement and monitor systems and processes for ensuring the effective management of risk, accurate recording and reporting, and maintenance of all records and documentation. 5. Contribute to the content of policies, procedures and guidelines related to own clinical area, and others. 6. Ensure compliance with Trust policies, procedures and clinical guidelines for self and others, alerting senior staff if practice appears to contravene policy, or if concerned about any aspect of patient care. MANAGERIAL/LEADERSHIP Ensure a healthy, safe, and secure working environment, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, maintaining accurate documentation and reporting any concerns. Act as co-ordinator between ward, clinician and endoscopy team until the patient either has their procedure or no longer requires a procedure.. Participate in the development of endoscopy services from the patients perspective, making suggestions for change, and by leading on relevant improvements under the direction of the Unit Nurse Manager 4. Provide expert clinical knowledge and leadership on improvements in the specialist area of endoscopy on behalf of the team to the benefit of patients, carers and relatives. 5. Participate in relevant patient and public involvement activities in the unit leading to service improvements. 6.Accept delegated line manager responsibilities by participating in the management of the team, recruiting staff, ensuring local induction, work-based learning and education takes place, and by providing clinical supervision, performance management and staff appraisal. Undertake the role of Unit Coordinator together, with the other Band 6 staff and Unit Nurse Manager. 7. Participate in the effective and efficient use of physical and financial resources, evaluating information to ensure the right numbers/skill mix of staff, equipment, and supplies are available, reporting any concerns to the Unit Nurse Manager. 8.Promote, monitor, and maintain a healthy, safe, and secure working environment, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, maintaining accurate documentation and reporting any concerns. EDUCATION/LEARNING Take responsibility for own learning and development by recognising and taking advantage of all opportunities to learn, including full participation in KSF/appraisal, supervision, action learning and by maintaining a professional/personal portfolio of learning. Participate in induction, work-based learning and assessment of others designed to improve knowledge and clinical practice within the team, including compliance of others about mandatory training and endoscopic specific knowledge and skills utilising the JETS Programme. Comply with plans to improve knowledge/clinical practice within the team, including involvement in supervision and mentorship.
