Job Overview
This post holder will, as part of the multi-disciplinary Community Learning Disability Teams, work towards addressing and supporting the health, psychological, emotional and behaviour needs of adults with a learning disability who have complex physical and emotional health needs. The post holder will be expected to be a strong advocate for people with a Learning Disability and have an awareness of health inequalities faced by them.
The Community Learning Disability Service currently consists of the Community Intensive Support Service and Community Learning Disability Team and works across Sheffield. This appointment is for a full time Consultant Psychiatrist in the Learning Disabilities team (10 sessions). The successful applicant will work closely with other professionals in the Learning Disability service as part of a multi-disciplinary team (MDT).

Person specification
Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice.
* Certificate of Completion of Training in Learning Disability Psychiatry or CESR equivalent.
* Inclusion on the Specialist Register or eligibility for inclusion.
* Section 12 (2) MHA 1983 approved.
* Approved Clinician (AC) status/eligibility to be on the AC register.
Desirable criteria
* MRCPsych or equivalent.
* MD, Other professional qualification (e.g., MSc).
Knowledge
* Ability to deliver care in collaboration with service users and their families/carers.
* Effective leadership skills.
* Ability to supervise junior medical staff.
* Awareness of the funding arrangements in the NHS and recent NHS developments.
* Ability to interpret published research and apply research findings to clinical practice.
* Understanding and experience of implementing the national Stopping Overmedication of People with Learning Disability and/or Autism (STOMP) and Transforming Care Agendas.
Experience
* Experience in Learning Disability Psychiatry.
* Experience to a level allowing recognition of trainer status by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
* Experience in teaching undergraduates and postgraduates.
* Evidence of experience in medical audit and understanding of principles of clinical governance.
* Practical experience of Clinical Audit.
Other
* Ability to exercise effective leadership in a multi-disciplinary team.
* Understanding of importance of multi-disciplinary service provision and the care programme approach.
* Understanding of and ability to deliver care in collaboration with service users to promote recovery.
* Sensitivity to the needs of people from a diverse range of communities.
* Highly effective communication skills.
* Participate in Continuous Professional Development.
