We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Support Medical Secretary to join our Paediatrics team at Musgrove Park Hospital (MPH). This role plays a vital part in ensuring the efficient delivery of administrative and secretarial support to our clinical staff.

Main duties of the job
1. Deal with day-to-day correspondence, initiating appropriate responses to provide patients, staff and other parties with required information in a friendly and professional manner.
2. Receive telephone calls, accepting messages on behalf of members of the specialty team, taking appropriate action where necessary.
3. Liaise with appropriate personnel in the team to gather and co-ordinate patient information so this is accessible in a timely manner.
4. Type all forms of clinical correspondence as dictated by clinical staff, by use of audio or copy typing. Filing copies in correct sequence, ensuring follow-up arrangements are in place, listing outstanding investigations on the hospital database system.
5. Process urgent referrals and arrange appropriate outpatient appointments.
6. Participate in team and Trust meetings as requested.

Person Specification
Qualifications
1. Good standard of general education, RSA/OCR III WP/Typing or equivalent, AMSPAR or British Medical Secretary Diploma (includes medical terminology) or equivalent knowledge
2. ECDL or equivalent
Experience
1. Previous NHS administration experience (2 years minimum), Medical audio typing
Additional Criteria
1. Working knowledge of Microsoft office suite, Knowledge of medical terminology
2. Working knowledge of in house hospital systems, Knowledge of patient notes/retrieval and related tasks/medical records procedure, Knowledge of Department and Divisional Structure
