Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably experienced and qualified Biomedical Scientist within the Department of Histopathology. We specialise in Neuropathology and Paediatric and Perinatal work. You will work with other Senior Biomedical Scientists (Section Leads) and the Laboratory Manager to provide a diagnostic and research service to the Trust and many other external users.
The laboratory is UKAS accredited to ISO 15189:2022, holds HTA licenses for post-mortem and Research, and is IBMS accredited for training.
Candidates must be HCPC registered and have demonstrable experience in Quality Management.
As part of the selection process, interviews will be conducted in person and on site for this role as there will be a practical examination.
Main duties of the job
* To ensure that the highest possible standards of scientific and technical work produced in the laboratory are maintained, whilst adhering to agreed protocols and quality control policies.
* To lead the main laboratory section and digital pathology.
* To prioritise the diagnostic work according to clinical need.
* To carry out all laboratory investigations to a high standard of technical excellence.
* To maintain and monitor the quality standards as per IS0 15189:2022 including responsibility over the laboratory audit calendar.
* To provide expert scientific input to the departmental Quality Team in implementation, maintenance, assessment and resolution of QA/QC issues that may impact on patient care and Clinical Governance.
* Undertake root cause analysis of incidents and non-conformances to use to formulate preventive actions and quality improvement.

* IBMS Specialist Diploma in Histopathology / MSc in a subject relevant to the post or equivalent work experience at a specialist level in a clinical histopathology laboratory

* Significant knowledge and extensive experience as a BMS in Histopathology
* Experience training other staff
* Knowledge of quality assurance, accreditation standards, HTA and health and safety legislation

* Experience with Audits, Incident reporting and investigation (e.g., RCA and CAPA)
