Why this job matters
The Converged Core network is at the heart of BT and supports everything we do. The network underpins major infrastructure, such as the emergency services network and national air traffic services. It supports 70% of the UK’s mobile network and 40% of the UK’s broadband network. With a strong background in TCP/IP, the Environment Specialist has a good technical understanding of the respective platforms/services consuming the Gemini Environment Models (IP Core, Connectivity, Mobile, Access, Global, IPP). As a subject matter expert, they offer consultancy support and technical guidance to ensure the smooth delivery and implementation of all Model build work and are called upon to offer technical upskilling and mentoring to the wider team.
What you’ll be doing – your accountabilities
* Accountable for the implementation of Network Infrastructure including evaluating, understanding and scoping the network to be implemented.
* Liaison for the Model Implementation team to ensure all build work is understood from a technical perspective.
* Works with the Environment Architect, providing support and input into the Environment and Model Strategy ensuring technical requirements from Platform teams are understood and shared.
* Provides technical consultancy for teams looking to transition models/labs into Gemini as part of the Adastral Park Strategy.
* Responsible for ensuring all Environment Models are built and configured according to organisational guidelines and technical requirements.
* Participates in technology lifecycle planning, including contributing to the development of Model technology roadmaps and Network Health Assessments.
* Provides technical guidance to support Gemini Room/Model consolidation.
* Acts as a technical mentor to the wider team helping to improve the team's abilities by acting as a Technical Champion.
* Champions, continuously develops and shares with the team knowledge on emerging trends and changes in Network Engineering.
* Provides technical quality assurance over the work of other engineers through a matrix team structure.
* Delivers resolutions to problems that tend to be complex, cross-domain or of high impact to the business.
* Financial awareness of Platform v Project spend and demand.

* Member of a professional body e.g. Institution of Engineering and Technology.
Experience you’d be expected to have
* Strong technical experience working on IP Networks with a demonstrable understanding across a range of platforms & services.
* You've moved outside of expected process or practice to suit the needs of a customer, colleague or client.
* Vendor accredited within TCP/IP Networks – CCNA/CCNP/NRS1/JNCIA, etc.
* You've worked with people from other business locations or functions to bring about a collaborative approach to Testing.
* Appreciation of Network Testing Toolsets and vendor offerings.
* You've actively participated in strategy setting sessions.
* You've influenced a technical team how to do their roles more effectively.
