We’re looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to create high-performance solutions - both standard and custom - in a hands-on, fast-moving environment. Established over 100 years ago, with offices across the UK and further afield, our client is now looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team based in Smethwick, West Midlands. Your projects will often range from small mechanical mechanisms to large, welded assemblies. As the Mechanical Design Engineer, you will: Produce rapid, high-quality 3D CAD models and 2D drawings for multiple projects at once Incorporate customer feedback to fine-tune both standard and niche product designs Apply smart design strategies using ITW’s 80/20, In-Lining, and PLS methodologies Enhance existing products for better manufacturability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness Work closely with production, sales, and service teams to align technical outputs with customer needs Maintain design standards and documentation in line with ISO 9001 and internal KPIs As the Mechanical Design Engineer, you will have: A Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar Proficiency in 3D CAD (e.g. SolidWorks) and basic simulation (e.g. FEA) is essential Knowledge of manufacturing processes (fabrications, castings, plastics) plus an understanding of mechanical analysis At least 2 years of experience in mechanical design, ideally within a manufacturing or project-based environment Strong communicator who adapts well to change and collaborates across departments A sharp eye for detail and the ability to deliver quality designs at speed You may have experience working within any of the following: Product Engineer, Mechanical Design Engineer, Mechanical Project Engineer, Applications Engineer, Mechanical Designer, Design Engineer, Product Design Engineer or any other similar position Working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
