HR Advisor
£34,000 pa FTE, part-time c.20-25 hours
Initial 12-month fixed-term contract
Remote, with some meetings in our High Wycombe office
We are looking to strengthen our HR team with a professional and qualified HR Advisor (CIPD level 3, preferably level 5) who will provide solid advice and guidance to our managers and staff on people matters and will significantly contribute to HR projects and ongoing investment in our people across the charity.

You will confidently provide advice and support in all people-related issues and contribute to HR projects in areas such as reward, wellbeing, engagement and recruitment and retention. You’ll also need to be flexible to support our HR Coordinator and HR Manager as the need arises.
You’ll be experienced in providing advice on performance management, flexible working, absence and job design. We’re looking for someone with a pragmatic approach and a desire to see HR make a continuous improvement in the support we provide and in the difference we make to the culture.
You don’t need a not for profit background, but you do need an interest in supporting good mental health and wellbeing for both the people we support and our staff.

Key Responsibilities
Purpose of role
The HR Advisor is responsible for providing high-quality HR support and guidance to employees and managers. The role involves advising on various HR-related topics such as employee relations, recruitment, performance management, and policy implementation. The HR Advisor ensures compliance with employment law and internal policies while fostering a positive work environment.
Responsibilities
A Recruitment and selection
* Support the recruitment process by advising hiring managers, drafting/editing job descriptions and adverts, advising on salaries, and participating in interviews where necessary.
* Contribute to the development of our Applicant Tracking system.
B Performance Management
* Provide guidance on performance during probationary periods.
* Advise managers on performance-related issues and guide them through the performance review process.
* Support the development and implementation of performance improvement plans.
C Employee Relations
* Provide advice to managers and employees on employment issues, including conduct and behaviour, grievances, disciplinary actions, absence management, and conflict resolution.
* Provide suggestions to prevent issues arising and offer practical solutions to promote a harmonious workplace.
* Mediate any employee disputes.
* Ensure that all issues are handled in a fair and consistent manner in line with Bucks Mind HR policies and employment law.
* Seek support from the HR Manager or escalate complex or difficult issues to the HR Manager as necessary.
D Policy review and implementation
* Assist in the development, review, and implementation of HR policies and procedures to ensure compliance with legal requirements and best practices.
* Provide advice on policy interpretation and ensure that policies are effectively communicated across the organisation.
E Training development
* Assist the HR Manager with undertaking the training needs analysis and creating the annual training plan.
* Source training providers and agree training content.
* Work with the HR Coordinator to provide a smooth process for the booking and monitoring of training.
F Ad hoc HR/people projects
* Participate in or lead HR projects, such as diversity initiatives, employee engagement surveys, organizational/structure review, pay and reward, wellbeing etc.
* Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the HR department.
G Other
* Work within Buckinghamshire Mind’s and Berkshire Mind’s policies and procedures including Performance Management, Confidentiality, Safeguarding, Equal Opportunities, Service User Involvement, Health and Safety and the Professional Boundaries policy.
* Keep informed about other projects, events and related issues regarding Buckinghamshire and Berkshire Mind.
* Keep line manager up to date and informed.
* Work in a flexible way to take on other responsibilities as appropriate.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge and skills
Essential
* Qualified to at leave CIPD level 3, preferable level 5.
* Proven experience as an HR Advisor or in a similar HR generalist role.
* Experience in dealing with employee relations, including disciplinary and grievance procedures.
* Experience in supporting recruitment and selection processes.
* Experience in implementing HR policies and managing performance.
* Good knowledge of employment law and HR compliance requirements.
* Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy.
* Ability to work autonomously and manage multiple tasks.
* High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
* Proactive, with a solution-oriented mindset.

Desirable
* Experience working in a charity

* Good level of IT skills including Microsoft Office and Outlook.
