An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band B Senior Dental Officer post at our clinics across the Southampton area within the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. Are you an enthusiastic, flexible, reliable team player with excellent communication skills?
We are looking for an experienced and motivated dentist to join our dynamic Special Care Dental Service to deliver routine and urgent dental care to patients, adults and children who are unable to access care in the General Dental Services due to their additional needs, social and behavioural limitations, domiciliary dental needs, anxiety management and bariatric care.
Care will be provided to patients referred to or under long-term care of the service, under local anaesthesia, inhalation, intravenous or intranasal sedation and general anaesthesia where appropriate. We are offering the chance to work in our dental surgeries with the support of experienced dental nurses and Therapists to assist you in achieving your UDA target and working within NHS Regulations.
There will be opportunities for the post holder to develop special interests and they will be supported by an enthusiastic and dedicated team, including Specialists in Special Care Dentistry, Paediatric Dentistry and GA/Sedation. You are required to be GDC registered and have an active performer number.
Main duties of the job
Patient examination and diagnosis
Undertake thorough examination of patients and provide a Dental Care Assessment.
Treatment planning and patient management
Plan and manage complex medical co-morbidities or situations requiring the involvement of other professionals and/or carers to resolve complex patient management issues. Clinical duties include comprehensive dental screening, survey and treatment services, including emergency treatment for patients requiring Special Care Dentistry and Specialist Occasional Care. Dental Care may be provided from various clinic premises, including mobile clinics and may involve domiciliary visits where appropriate. It is normal for this post to treat patients in wheelchairs using a wheelchair recliner, including bariatric patients, and to be able to use hoists.
Medical and dental emergencies
Identify commonly occurring medical emergencies and lead the dental team in the appropriate first line management of the emergency, using appropriate techniques, equipment and drugs. Keep up to date with developments in this area and/or be able to advise other members of the team. Take responsibility for organising training and resources for the acute management of medical emergencies within the immediate team and/or as part of the service.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Current full Registration as Dental Surgeon with General Dental Council
* Foundation (Vocational) Training / equivalence and current Performers List number
Experience
* Experience of organising, managing and running clinics and support staff
* Evidence of commitment to continuous professional development and currency within GDC requirements
* Experience of dental software (R4 or similar)
