About the job:
This is a genuine opportunity to champion the environmental sustainability agenda at GWR with a focus on air quality and noise management.
You will work in partnership with other areas of the business to ensure environmental best practices are embedded throughout GWR to help shape and achieve the targets outlined in the National Rail Contract.
Key to this role will be the development of action plans to deliver against our environmental management plans. You will be responsible for the continual improvement of data capture and reporting to ensure the business understands the environmental impacts.
A large part of this role will involve building relationships and stakeholder engagement both internally and externally, such as suppliers, local authorities, regulators and various industry groups. Collaboration will be needed to mitigate risks and identify opportunities for synergies, efficiencies and innovation.
Your main responsibilities will be:
* Lead the noise and air quality management programs
* Collate, analyse and monitor data, including from stakeholder feedback.
* Lead environmental improvement initiatives.
* Coordinate the RSSB air quality monitoring project to ensure diffusion tubes are changed according to schedule.
* Support/lead other initiatives to improve environmental air quality and noise.
* Support the Senior Environment Manager in delivering wider environmental and sustainability initiatives as required
As a minimum, you will need to have:
* Member of IEMA or other related professional body, or working towards.
* HND or degree in a science or engineering subject or other environmental discipline
Job Specific Knowledge & Skills
* Relevant environmental management experience preferably within a multi-site environment, including waste, water and air quality management
* Experience in identifying and implementing environmental improvement measures across a multi-site portfolio
* Knowledge of environmental legislation
* Excellent communicator and team player
* Ability to manage own time and work independently
* Proactive in seeking out improvement opportunities
* Excellent report writing skills (essential for preparing business cases)
* Strong numerical analysis skills required
* Ability to maintain effective relationships with stakeholders
About the location:
Milford House, Swindon (or other GWR location as agreed), and with travel across the GWR network to be expected. Flexible working options are available.
