Solent NHS Trust has recently been awarded the new contract to provide Sexual Health and HIV Services across Portsmouth, Southampton, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight and we are looking for someone with a passion for helping service users with Sexual Health and HIV to join our team. You will assess individual client needs and provide advice on sexual health and all methods of Contraception within a variety of settings, as directed by the management team. As part of the nursing team you will work within standard operating procedures and will receive full training to ensure evidence based practices are followed. You will issue first time and repeat hormonal and emergency contraception and treatment for sexually transmitted infections working to Patient Group Directions or as an independent prescriber.
We are a busy Level 3 integrated, open access Sexual Health and HIV Service. The role is based in Portsmouth and South East Hampshire which has clinics running Monday to Friday and monthly on Saturdays. We operate a hub and spoke model of care to provide a full sexual health assessment, examinations, screening, diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted infections along with assessing and provided contraception. We are digitally innovative; patient focused and continually strive for service-wide quality improvement.
The post holder will have a recognised post registration qualification in contraception and Sexual Health at degree or diploma level to be recruited into the band 6 role. If you have no contraception and sexual health experience we may be able to offer you a band 5 developmental sexual health nurse role instead. Band 5 developmental sexual health nurses will need to complete the required diploma which we can support you with, please be aware this can take up to 18 months to complete.
The successful candidate will have skills including, excellent communication skills, written and verbal, IT literate, ability to adapt to change within work situation, time management skills, working independently with minimal support, presentation/teaching experience, good interpersonal skills, ability to relate to clients with differing cultural beliefs, promote a positive approach to diversity and equality of opportunity, promote a culture which respects and values diversity, and support patients, visitors and staff in exercising their rights, willing to alongside the unplanned pregnancy service, ability to work as part of a close-knit team, self motivated, self starter, able to organise a large and varied work programme, being flexible and adaptable at work in order to meet competing priorities.
