Job summary Critical Care Scientists are specially trained healthcare scientists who work collaboratively as part of a multi-professional team providing scientific expertise and knowledge of the physiology and technology involved in the delivery of care to critically ill patients. CCS's undertake scientific and clinical roles, including working directly with patients and providing advice to medical, nursing, and other staff in the critical care setting about the safe and effective use of medical devices. Main duties of the job Perform pre-use safety checks, functionality testing, calibration, and quality control on specialist clinical devices to ensure accurate performance. Provide a first line troubleshooting and maintenance service supporting the critical care team at the bedside with respect to all aspects of medical technology. Provide scientific support for the transport / transfer of critically ill and anaesthetised patients. Respond to and assist with resuscitation and trauma calls in the Emergency Department. Skills to deal with occasional exposure to highly distressing and emotional circumstances. Operate a wide range of medical devices used in the clinical environment, understanding their clinical applicability, associated risks, and limitations Provide specialist advice and expertise on all aspects of critical care science.Promote the culture of safe and effective use of technological systems for the benefit and care of critically ill patients.Maintain effective communication with patients, relatives, carers, fellow healthcare professionals, external suppliers, engineers, and members of the public to ensure seamless and evolving service delivery.
