What to Expect
Fastener Engineering, within the Product Engineering Materials group, provides specialist engineering support and direction to various departments within JLR. The team is responsible for designing and developing new fasteners, establishing standards, and creating strategic fixing solutions to drive part rationalization, cost reduction, and control of fastener part numbering.
Reporting to the Fastener Engineering Group Leader, the successful candidate will work in a cross-commodity, architecture-driven environment, providing expert guidance on fixing solutions. Collaboration with departments such as Product Engineering, PVT, Manufacturing, Purchasing, STA, Service, and Vehicle Programmes is essential.
What You'll Do
* Lead fastener testing, collaborate with engineers to prioritize, perform, and report testing, and manage tools like DC torque wrenches and ultrasonic load measurements.
* Support technical discussions and investigations into fastener/material technologies, process developments, or service failures.
* Manage Laboratory 5S, Health & Safety, and general practices.
* Support the delivery of issues through the Automated Issues Management System / JIRA, escalating as necessary.
What You'll Need
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
* Excellent communication, influencing, and engagement skills, with a willingness to learn.
* Self-motivated with the ability to work independently to high standards, managing multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
* Technical knowledge of metallic materials and technologies.
* Experience with nut runners, DC tools, load cells, and ultrasonic clamp load measurements.
* Proficiency in PC applications including Jira, Confluence, Microsoft Project, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
