Teaching Assistants Required to train as Teachers at an SEN School in Surrey - Apply Now!
Have you a passion for supporting children and young people through their education?
Would you like to train to be an SEN Teacher?
Do you drive?
If so, this could be the ideal role for you?
We are working closely with a Special Educational Needs School for children aged 4-19 years old with autism. They have provision for 80 pupils and are graded Outstanding by Ofsted. The school supports pupils on a 1:1 basis within small classes (3-6 pupils per class).
The School uses the approach of ABA (Applied Behaviour Analysis) to teaching whereby each pupil has an individualised curriculum that is tailored to their needs, pupils progress is encouraged via positive reinforcement (praise, reward) and breaking tasks down into manageable steps and then monitored by taking data and frequently graphing this to track trends. Their structure is set up so that they have teachers (this role) per pupil in each class, a Lead Teacher and a Supervisor.
We are helping them recruit for Trainee SEN Teacher's to join the school. The role incorporates, lesson planning, teaching, break and lunchtime support, personal care, supporting off site trips, assistance with pupil's therapy sessions, behaviour management and much more! Staff have access to extensive funded training and qualification opportunities which I think is a main area that sets this school aside from others. All staff are encouraged to, and have the opportunity to, work through the school's ABA training whereby they can complete CABAS Teaching ranks and gain nationally recognised accreditation specific to the field of ABA. There is also the opportunity to do the Registered Behaviour Technician (RBT) qualification and a Masters in ABA. They also have more generalist training available such as emergency medication, safeguarding, first aid etc. and CACHE level 2,3 and 4 Teaching and Learning qualifications. All training links to their career progression opportunities of which they have regular vacancies for staff to progress to a Lead Teacher and Supervisor role.
These opportunities in return, require a level of commitment to their study programme from candidates whereby independent time may be required to dedicate. Please note that this is an unqualified role (similar to a teaching assistant but with more responsibility and lead) so candidates do not require and will NOT achieve a QTS via this role which would enable them to practice as a qualified teacher in any setting.
This role would be ideal for someone who has experience of working with children or adults and special educational needs such as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Nursery Nurse, Behaviour Support Assistant, ABA Tutor, Early Years Practitioner, Support Worker, Care Assistant etc. This role is also suitable for psychology graduates due to their ABA approach. They are also welcoming of candidates that have a care background who are wanting to move into education.
Successful candidates will be awarded a £1,000 joining bonus (subject to conditions/deductions), paid in their first months' salary.
Please note that we are only able to accept full time hours for this role: 09:00am - 4:30pm and till 5:30pm on a Tuesday when staff meetings and training are held. This role is term time only so candidates will have school holidays (approx. 9 weeks) - please note that this school's holidays are slightly shorter than other settings e.g. 4 weeks in summer instead of 6 etc. Please also note that this role requires candidates to have a grade C in both Maths & English Language GSCE or equivalent (e.g. functional skills level 2 or higher qualification such as a relevant degree etc).
This setting is for children who have complex needs and severe cases of autism, therefore support with managing challenging behaviour (can be physical - hair pulling, hitting, kicking etc) and personal care (toileting etc) will be required.
The assessment process for this role begins with submission of a completed application form. If shortlisted, you will be invited to attend an assessment day at the school including a tour, a class assessment and a formal interview with the Headteacher, HR and governor.
Please note, This School is located in a rural area with no links to public transport meaning access to a vehicle is vital for candidates to get to work.
