University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW)
This post is for a locum emergency consultant with an interest in Benign Upper GI Surgery at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS (UHBW). This post is an expansion of consultant numbers interested in Acute Biliary work.
The post, although initially for 6 months, has a view to extension including being part of service redesign across all UHBW Surgery sites longer term.
The successful candidate should be trained in General Surgery with an interest in Upper GI surgery. The post will be part of the Upper GI service on the Weston General Hospital site, which includes elective and emergency commitments, and endoscopy. However, it is expected that the successful candidate will work across all UHBW sites as needed by the service, as we work towards a fully integrated service across all UHBW sites.
Main duties of the job
Since integration with University Hospitals Bristol in 2020, University Hospitals Bristol and Weston have developed Weston 'Front door' services, and we have a strong SDEC (Same Day Emergency Care) ethos, including integration with Hospital@Home services. In development of an acute biliary service across both acute UHBW sites, we have been a member of the Royal College of Surgeons Chole-Quic4 programme and will continue to work collaboratively with the college in future years on this service improvement programme. This post is pivotal in the next stage of that process.
The post holder will have responsibilities to develop and contribute to continuing education, including educational supervision of resident doctors, their own professional development, and audit and research within the Division and Trust.
Applicants must be on the GMC Specialists Registrar or within six months of obtaining Specialist Registration at the time of interview.
The post-holders will have an on-call commitment of 1 in 8, subject to change.
