About Us
Upstairs Inverness and An Seòmar are at the forefront of Inverness’s vibrant music and nightlife scene. Together, these venues showcase an eclectic mix of live music, club nights, and cultural events, offering unique spaces to celebrate creativity and community.
We are part of a wider group of 5 local music venues, booking around 2,000 gigs per year combined, and the technical element of this role will also cover sound and light maintenance and daily checks on self-mixed solo/duo performers operating our in-house PA’s in small venues.
We’re seeking an organised, experienced, innovative, and energetic individual to join our team as a House technician and event programmer. Key Responsibilities
Event Programming and Curation
· Develop and manage the event calendars for Upstairs Inverness and An Seomar, ensuring a diverse and balanced lineup of live music performances, DJ club nights, and themed events.
· Book acts for each venue, working with live bands, headline DJs, support acts, promoters and guest artists to deliver a high level of entertainment.
· Collaborate with each venue’s General Manager to meet technical and logistical needs for events.
· Work with marketing teams to design creative event concepts tailored to each venue’s audience and character.
Promotions and Marketing
· Work with the marketing team to develop innovative promotional campaigns for events across all three venues using digital marketing, social media, and influencer partnerships.
· Supervise all technical aspects of the venues, including operation of sound and light equipment, audio/lights tech/mix for artists, repairs and maintenance of gear, etc.
· Familiarity with professional sound and light systems, DJ technology, and live performance equipment such as L’Acoustics, NEXO, Lab Gruppen, Allen and Heath, Avolite, etc
· Function as the in-house technician for sound and light, supporting touring techs and supervising the safety and proper use of our equipment
Customer Experience and Engagement
· Ensure all events deliver exceptional experiences, aligned with the unique brand and character of each venue.
· Oversee event operations, ensuring sound, lighting, and crowd management run smoothly.
Networking
· Build and maintain relationships with artists, bands, DJs, agents, and promoters to secure high-calibre bookings for the venues.
· Attend festivals and industry events to stay updated on trends and discover new talent.
· Act as the artist liaison, ensuring smooth event execution and a positive experience for performers at all venues.
· Complete settlements with external promoters and maintain strong industry connections.
· Proven experience in event programming, promotions, or entertainment management within live music, nightlife, or hospitality.
· Extensive experience as an audio/lighting engineer in either a touring or in-house technical role
· Passion for live music and club culture, with knowledge of artists, genres, and industry trends.
· Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage and inspire diverse teams.
· Excellent communication and customer service skills.
· Additional qualifications, such as First Aid or SIA training.
· Experience with Microsoft Excel, POS systems, and financial reporting.
