Kew House School was established in the conviction that there exists an opportunity for a different kind of independent secondary school in London – academically demanding but with a forward-thinking approach to selection criteria, the flexibility of the curriculum, the shape of the school day, and recognition of creativity and talent. A character-selective school, we pride ourselves on the support and care we extend to our 560 pupils whilst striving to add value to their success in all fields of academia, sport, and creativity. Having successfully grown over its ten years since foundation and recently awarded the ISI “Excellent” grading.
Curriculum
Science has a role of great importance within the curriculum. The faculty is exceptionally well equipped with seven dedicated laboratories and a prep room. All labs are well provided with resources to ensure the delivery of a dynamic and exhilarating curriculum for our pupils, where practical investigation is placed at the heart of teaching and learning in order to engage and inspire our pupils as young scientists. We teach general science to Year 7, then separate physics, chemistry, and biology from Year 8 onwards. Teachers are rarely required to teach out of specialism.
The KHS Physics Department is thriving. Results are excellent, and both physics and engineering degrees are popular university choices at KHS. We prepare a number of students to sit the Oxford Physics Aptitude Test each year, the ability to support this is advantageous for candidates. Many of our year 12 students sit the British Physics Olympiad, which we help prepare them for.
