We have an exciting opportunity to join the Council’s Corporate Health & Safety team as a Health & Safety Advisor, with a focus on supporting our Housing service area. We are looking for someone with recent experience in a health and safety compliance advisory role, recognised health and safety qualifications and a full UK driving licence. You must be a good team player with effective communication and influencing skills along with a sound technical knowledge. You will be an integral part of the Council’s Corporate Health and Safety Team providing competent advice to the Council but in particular in relation to the management of the Council’s social housing function including tenant safety, the maintenance of the Council’s current housing stock and the construction of new properties. The post holder will also be expected to work with the teams who offer housing advice, deal with homelessness, regulation of the provision of privately rented dwellings and supporting those who may need help to remain in their current home. Knowledge and experience of working with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 and fire risk assessments would be helpful. Working closely with managers, supervisors and staff, you will promote a positive safe working culture to ensure compliance with legislation by educating and advising the organisation on changes to legislation and areas of best practice. A desire for continual improvement is essential as you will be expected to assist in the development and review of health and safety policies, safe systems of work, procedures and guidance and be responsible for auditing, investigating and reporting work related incidents. You must have the ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels in the organisation, both orally and in writing, translating complex health and safety requirements into everyday language. You will also have excellent prioritisation skills and good negotiating and influencing skills. Possible secondment opportunity for East Suffolk Council employees with the appropriate qualifications.
