Location: RG7 4PR, located between Reading and Basingstoke, with free onsite parking.
Due to the classified nature of the work involved, there are limited opportunities to work from home in this role. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will spend the majority of their time working (min. 80%) on site at AWE Aldermaston.
Package: £62,020 - £98,020 (depending on your suitability, qualifications, and level of experience).
A relocation package may be available (terms and conditions apply).

AWE is currently recruiting for a Principal Nuclear Warhead Safety Engineer for the Warhead Engineering Surety Group.
This role is ideally suited to an engineer or scientist who will be able to undertaking technical assessments and provide advice on the major hazards associated with product such as nuclear and explosives, and provide safety information to Operators to incorporate in to their Safety Cases.
This role will adapt to the candidate as it can cover a diverse range of safety engineering, from advising on safety related research experiments or topics, through to teaching nuclear product safety, development of electronic Safety Case tools (eSC), undertaking nuclear safety assessments, safety management activities and product design safety.
We recognise that prior experience in this role might be challenging so we can provide support for a postgraduate level education course up to and including an MSc in Defence Nuclear Safety (Part-time).

1. Degree or postgraduate qualifications in Science or Engineering or a related subject.
2. PhD candidates would also be very suited to this role.

3. Previous experience working on munitions and/ or nuclear reactors or other high-hazard industry.
4. Knowledge of Safety Case content and ALARP determination.
5. Understanding of Defence or Civil nuclear regulations.
6. Ability to undertake critical analysis and assessment of complex systems.
7. Effective communication skills (written, presentation and spoken).
8. Leadership or management of related safety projects.
You'll need to have the ability to work calmly and constructively in a priority changing environment and be able to manage your own workload. You will also have initiative, enthusiasm, a flexible approach, and ability to work to tight deadlines.
