About The Role
This is a fixed-term position for 2 years, working full-time.
We invite applications for our innovative surgical research posts within Swansea University Medical School. These positions offer an opportunity for the successful candidates to combine high-impact academic surgical research with a broad range of clinical exposure. The research areas are suited to surgical trainees with interests in colorectal, plastic surgery, urology, ENT, or hepatobiliary fields. Candidates will be closely supervised by academic surgeons and university collaborators with proven track records in supervising higher degree awards. Successful candidates are expected to work towards a higher degree (MSc, MPhil, MD, or PhD). A variety of funded research projects are available, with options for laboratory-based or clinically focused settings, depending on the candidate's ability and preferences.
This position will be based at Singleton Hospital, Swansea, and Swansea University.

Welsh Language Skills
The role requires Level 1 Welsh language skills — the ability to pronounce Welsh words, answer the phone in Welsh (e.g., "good morning/afternoon"), and use basic everyday phrases (e.g., "thank you", "please"). Level 1 can be achieved by completing a one-hour course.

Requirements include:
* Attainment of MRCS (or equivalent)
* Completion of the Royal College of Surgeons Care of the Critically Ill Surgical Patient (CCrISP) course or equivalent
* Evidence of implementing innovative practice, including evaluation and positive outcomes based on current research
* Demonstration of advanced professional, research, or teaching practice with at least two CPD activities in the last year
