The newly formed award-winning branded production arm of Shutterstock – Shutterstock Studios – has had an incredible year of growth, producing highly creative social content, TV spots, integrated digital campaigns, custom 3D animation, and short documentaries for the world's biggest brands and advertising agencies. With offices in New York and London, SSTK Studios is a global interconnected creative and production solution, working with partners and freelancers to produce all types of content for our clients across video, photo, music, 3D, Generative AI, animation, and XR.
To support our rapid growth in EMEA, we are looking for an experienced Business Affairs Manager to join the London team. This is a critical role within the global organization, that will be tasked with evolving and improving on our internal operations to create efficiencies and help the team scale.
The day to day:
* In collaboration with legal and the BA Manager in the US, implement and improve internal processes (contracting, usage, clearance, etc).
* Work with legal on contract amendments and to keep our client/vendor agreement templates up to date, in line with the Advertising Industry standards in EMEA and the business needs.
* Draft/review Statement of Works (SOWs) and PIBs agreements for projects outlining deliverables, staff plans and production management, creative reviews and general legal call-outs. Lead Client contract negotiations and revisions.
* Draft/review all third party agreements including production and post agreements, ensuring compliance with Client SOW’s and MSA’s.
* Manage UK freelancer employment classifications.
* Draft/review/negotiate/manage composer/music and talent contracts (including celebrity and influencer agreements) for domestic and global media.
* Support bidding producers and producers when required with obtaining accurate estimates for talent, including session fees, usage, residuals and music.
* Implement usage tracker and updates frequently with notifications on expiration.
* Partnering with the broad spectrum of Studios teams to understand the intended outcome of the work, making sure any issues or obstacles are identified, including carrying out preliminary trademark searches for proposed work.
* Review creative materials and advise Studios teams on talent, copyright and intellectual property issues.
* Negotiate with Production vendors on terms and conditions.
* Work with network broadcast standards departments for ad clearance e.g. Advertising Standards Authority in UK, when required.
* Partner with finance and accounting teams to manage and expedite vendor payments.
* Advise on insurance requirements needed in connection with projects being produced in global markets.
* Manage ongoing insurance affairs and renewal negotiations.
* Draft Production specific policies for Studios - i.e. H&S, working with children, DEI, sustainability etc.
What you'll bring to the role:
* 5+ years’ experience in a similar role at an advertising production company or advertising agency.
* Experience implementing and improving Business Affairs related systems and workflows.
* High level of proficiency in drafting and negotiating a broad spectrum of contracts.
* An excellent communicator for managing both internal and external stakeholders at various levels across the business.
* Prior knowledge of and understanding of advertising codes in European markets.
* Able to lead and mentor others on all matters related to Business Affairs.
* Experience working with finance and operations teams and is a good collaborator to find solutions to business challenges.
* Able to balance competing stakeholder demands, while assessing and escalating risks when appropriate.
