The Role
As an Apprentice in our Signalling Department, you will work alongside experienced Engineers and Technicians, specialising in Signalling, which is crucial for the safe operation of our railway. You will learn through hands-on experience, carrying out maintenance, fault finding, and supporting Signalling projects. You will be part of a dedicated team committed to maintaining a safe and reliable Signalling system.
Training will be provided by our training department, Signalling team, and Signalling Specialists. You will also complete a Level 3 Rail Engineering Technicians Apprenticeship, focusing on Signalling, to transfer knowledge into practical skills. This role suits individuals who are logical, enjoy problem-solving, and can work independently and under pressure. Flexibility and dedication are essential, as Eurotunnel operates 24/7 in all weather conditions.
Principal Accountabilities, Qualifications, and Experience
The apprentice must commit to completing the training program and achieving competence in Signalling systems and procedures, with the goal of securing a permanent technician role afterward.
General requirements include:
* Understanding and respecting Health, Safety, and operational procedures.
* Performing planned maintenance to ensure reliability and availability.
* Diagnosing faults and performing corrective maintenance safely and efficiently.
* Recording and reporting equipment performance.
* Proficiency in computerised administrative systems.
* Working effectively as part of a team, demonstrating company values.
* Minimum GCSEs or A Levels in Maths, English, and Science or Technical subjects (grades 9-5).
* Electrical qualifications (ONC or HNC) are advantageous or willingness to undertake them.
* Competence in Microsoft Office, Outlook, and web tools.
* Ability to communicate in French is a plus but not essential.
* A full UK driving licence is essential.
* Applicants must be aged 18 or over at the start of employment.
* Must meet medical standards for the role.
