At SLPE, we are looking for an experienced Engineer II to join our expanding team.
We are seeking a talented and motivated Engineer II to join our innovative design team specialising in offshore substations and wind turbines. In this role, you will contribute to the structural design and analysis using top of the range software.
As an Engineer II, you will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, applying your technical expertise to support the successful delivery of projects within the offshore energy sector.
Who we are looking for:
We are looking for someone with 3 to 5 years of relevant engineering experience, ideally in offshore structures, wind turbines, or marine systems.
The ideal candidate will have strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, great interpersonal skills and want to be part of an organisation that is striving to achieve the goal of being the worlds leading offshore renewable energy team.
You will be familiar with structural design software used in the offshore wind industry, ideally the Sesam suite and Ansys, and be open minded to experience new software that is designed by our inhouse Software Engineering Team. In addition to this you will be comfortable with typical analyses such as ULS, FLS, wave loading, etc.
A familiarity with offshore wind foundations design is essential, especially in relation to interfaces between secondary structures and other disciplines such primary steel and electrical design.
You will be able to develop relationships with clients, anticipate their needs, and challenge the status quo whilst also being proactive in the educating others on health and safety.
You will have confidence in managing your own scope of work and budgets and mentor and train junior members of the SLPE team.

The role offers a competitive salary range from £45,000 to £54,000 per annum dependent on experience.
Job Description:
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and optimise designs for offshore substations and wind turbine components, ensuring compliance with industry standards and client specifications.
2. Working with our existing experienced secondary steel engineers to develop efficient and innovative designs for secondary structures on our wind turbine and substation foundations design projects.
3. Perform structural analyses to validate design integrity, functionality, and safety.
4. Utilize engineering software tools (e.g. Sesam suite and Ansys) to produce detailed drawings.
5. Support the planning and execution of design phases, including feasibility studies, concept development, and detailed engineering.
6. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate designs with broader project requirements, including FEA and CAD.
7. Prepare comprehensive technical documentation, including design reports, calculations, and risk assessments.
8. Review and verify design deliverables for accuracy, quality, and compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
9. Coordinate with project managers, clients, and external stakeholders to ensure alignment on technical requirements and project goals.
10. Participate in design reviews and client meetings.
11. Preparation of high-quality design deliverables, including both written design reports and 2D drawings (supported by SLPE’s CAD team)
12. Identify opportunities for innovation and cost-effective design solutions to enhance project outcomes.
13. Stay updated on emerging technologies and trends in offshore energy systems to support continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience:
1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or related field); Master’s degree preferred.
2. 3 to 5 years of relevant engineering experience, ideally in offshore structures, wind turbines, or marine systems.
3. Proven track record of contributing to complex design projects in the renewable energy sector desirable.
4. Proficiency in engineering design software (e.g. Sesam suite and Ansys)
5. Knowledge of industry codes and standards such as IEC and DNV.
6. Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is a plus.
7. Familiarity with typical design criteria and analysis approaches for secondary steel design, including ULS, FLS, SLS, and lift analysis of structures in air and water
8. Experience of designing secondary steel structures for offshore wind projects, such as internal and external platforms, boat landings and ladders, gates and handrails would be beneficial.
9. A strong understanding of structural detailing, such as design of welded and bolted connections
10. Familiarity with applicable design standards, in particular Eurocode standards for steel and aluminium design

Additional Information:
This role will be based in either London or Bristol. SLPE currently operates on a hybrid working basis, with staff typically expected to attend the office a minimum of 3 days per week. For a Bristol-based candidate, regular travel to SLPE’s main office in central London will be required, for which expenses will be reimbursed.
