Job summary Mere is a 22-bedded general surgical ward specialising in upper gastrointestinal surgery and chest trauma unit. We care for patients admitted to hospital for routine surgery as well as those admitted for emergency treatment. Mere is also the Admitting ward for patients who have experienced a Chest Trauma. More detail about the role There are 4 Consultants who operate 5 days a week between them. We carry out routine procedures such as Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal) as well as more complex surgery such as Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication (anti-reflux surgery). Our Chest Trauma patients receive intensive care from the Perioperative team, Physiotherapist and Acute pain team as part of their recovery. We have a range of multidisciplinary team members who work or contribute on the ward and they are consultants, registrars, nurses, specialist nurses, dietitians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and the ward clerk. Our philosophy of care is for staff to work in partnership with patients and their families to promote independence and get patients home after surgery as soon as it is safe to do so. We aim to deliver safe high-quality care to our patients by staff who have the required skill, knowledge and resources to do so. Mere ward is looking for a motivated, efficient, well organised. Be able to provide excellent care to ITU Stepdown patients, End of Life patients that are for palliation. Be able to work closely & support nursing team to help them with their workload.
