The position of Senior Clinical Fellow in Gastroenterology would support the Gastroenterology service at Royal Lancaster Infirmary as well as the opportunity to acquire further specialist Endoscopy training.
The post holder will also be supporting with ward cover for the Gastroenterology Ward at Royal Lancaster Infirmary. The post-holder will work alongside consultant gastroenterologists, nurse consultants, Advanced nurse practitioners, and specialist nurses. The post holder will be responsible to the Gastroenterology clinical lead.
Main duties of the job
The post is primarily based at Royal Lancaster Infirmary. The assignment of specific clinical responsibilities will be agreed with the post holder on appointment. A tentative job plan will be discussed and can be adjusted to suit the service needs and the interests of the new post holder.
There will be opportunities to acquire further specialist Endoscopy training (Luminal training). The successful candidate will be involved in supporting the wards, outpatient clinics, managing a broad range of Gastroenterology patients.
The trainee will not take part in GI bleed on-call duties until a period of induction and close supervision has been undertaken and both they and the Supervising consultant are satisfied that they are competent and ready. The trainee will always have access to consultant support during on-call periods.
The involvement in clinical audit is an expectation from the successful applicant; a minimum of 1 audit per year will be required and more would be actively encouraged.
It is envisaged that the trainee will be involved in the education and training of junior medical staff and medical students from the school of medicine at Lancaster University.

We operate from three main hospitals: Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
