We are working with a fine chemical company specializing in the synthesis of natural fragrance and sensory products. These products are used in a range of FMCG items, and it’s likely you’ll have some in your house right now as ingredients in shower gels, cleaning sprays, air fresheners, etc!
The company is a leading business in their field, and the role will involve carrying out synthetic chemical activities that lead to product development for their clients. They are seeking an experienced synthesis chemist with a background in reaction and organic chemistry who can grow and maintain the products the company manufactures.
What you’ll do:
* Research new processes, materials & techniques through literature searches and laboratory work that can be used in the production of new US/EU natural aroma chemicals (or the improvement of existing natural products), and lead these projects effectively.
* Scale up reactions to maximum laboratory scale, develop “Technology Transfer packs,” and collaborate with the Quality Control (QC) department to develop analytical methods for in-process QC and final product testing.
* Act as a technical “champion” during development trials within the production plants, providing on-site support to production as required.
* Prepare reports on R&D activities within the laboratory, including for internal intranet publication.
* Maintain a working knowledge of the chemical processes used within Operations and assist Operations as required with these processes.
* Follow good housekeeping practices and safe working procedures in the laboratory and office, ensuring that all areas remain clean, tidy, and free from spillage at all times. Maintain accurate and precise lab book data.
* Adhere to the company’s Quality, Health & Safety, and Environmental policies and promote compliance, especially in the keeping of records, data, and samples.
Your background:
* MSc / PhD in Chemistry
* Laboratory-based R&D experience is required; this is a senior role, so multi-year experience is necessary.
* Familiarity with US/EU natural aroma chemicals in the flavour and fragrance market is an advantage, although significant knowledge in industries such as pharma, medicinal, or fine chemicals will be considered.
* Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and a robust knowledge of organic chemistry are required.
