Join Our Team at Wild by Design – Woodland/Horticultural Operative x 2
Starting Salary: £28,000 + DOE | Potential for Career Growth
About Us:
At Wild by Design, we are a fast-growing company specialising in wild garden design across Surrey and the surrounding counties. We’re now expanding our services to include habitat creation, with a particular focus on woodland management. Our services include woodland creation, estate management, tree work, environmental projects, and unique landscaping solutions such as wildflower meadows and wild pond installations. We pride ourselves on our commitment to the environment, creativity, and the highest standards of work.
The Role:
We’re looking for an enthusiastic Woodland/Horticultural Operative to join our passionate and experienced team. This diverse role will see you involved in a variety of projects, from woodland and estate management to environmental restoration and outdoor craftsmanship. No two days are the same, and your work will make a tangible impact on the landscapes we help nurture. As this is a new area of the business, you’ll have the opportunity to shape the role, drive future projects, and establish best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assist with woodland and estate management, including tree work, forestry, and vegetation management
2. Take part in creating wildflower meadows, installing ponds, planting trees, and other landscaping activities
3. Support the creation of bespoke woodland furniture and participate in woodland crafts
4. Work outdoors in varying weather conditions, ensuring the highest standards of safety and environmental care
5. Collaborate with the team while also being able to work independently
6. Continuously learn and develop your skills in woodland management, horticulture, and conservation
What We’re Looking For:
We value passion for the environment just as much as experience. If you’re a hard worker with a love for the outdoors and a willingness to learn, we want to hear from you! Key attributes we’re looking for include:
1. A strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail
2. The ability to thrive in a team or work independently with minimal supervision
3. Physical fitness and the stamina to handle the physical demands of the role
4. A willingness to adapt to changing conditions and technologies
5. A disciplined approach to safety and environmental practices
6. A passion for learning and professional development
Desirable Experience & Qualifications (not essential):
While prior experience is an advantage, it’s not essential. We’re happy to support the right candidate in gaining relevant skills and certifications. However, the following would be beneficial:
1. Understanding of Woodland Flora and Fauna
2. Certification or training in arboriculture, forestry, or a related field
3. Previous practical experience in agriculture, forestry, or horticulture
4. Experience operating chainsaws or other tree care tools
5. Knowledge of habitat management and sustainability practices
6. Interest or experience in woodland crafts and environmental conservation
7. Full UK driving license (preferred)
Why Wild by Design?
1. Competitive starting salary with potential for growth
2. Opportunity to develop valuable skills in woodland and environmental management
3. Work alongside a supportive and experienced team
4. Varied and fulfilling outdoor work in a role that makes a real difference
5. A chance to contribute to a company that values creativity, sustainability, and environmental impact
If you’re looking for a rewarding career that combines hands-on work with a genuine passion for the environment, we’d love to hear from you. Apply today to join a growing team that’s shaping the future of woodland management and outdoor spaces.
