As an early-stage start-up, they are building their foundation and are looking for a talented Data Engineering Architect/Principal Engineer to play a critical role in shaping their data infrastructure and strategy.
Role Overview:
As the Data Engineering Architect/Principal Engineer, you will take ownership of designing and implementing a scalable, robust data architecture to support our client's cutting-edge insurance platform. You will be instrumental in building a strong data foundation, ensuring seamless integration of data pipelines, and driving the use of data as a strategic asset. This role combines hands-on technical expertise with strategic architectural responsibilities in a fast-paced, start-up environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design and Implement: Scalable, high-performance data architecture for the platform.
2. Build and Optimise: Data pipelines, ensuring the efficient collection, transformation, and storage of data.
3. Drive Best Practices: In data engineering, including data quality, security, and governance.
4. Collaborate: With cross-functional teams to align data architecture with business and technical goals.
5. Lead Selection and Integration: Of tools, frameworks, and technologies to support data initiatives.
6. Provide Hands-On Technical Leadership: Continuously evaluate and improve existing data systems, ensuring scalability and reliability as the company grows.
7. Adaptability: Be comfortable navigating the challenges of an early-stage start-up and contribute to a culture of adaptability and collaboration.
Technical Proficiency:
1. Database Design: Deep understanding of database design principles, including SQL and NoSQL databases.
2. Data Modelling: Proficiency in creating conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
3. Data Warehousing: Knowledge of data warehousing and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes.
4. Big Data Technologies: Familiarity with big data technologies like Hadoop, Spark, and cloud storage solutions.
5. Data Integration: Skills in integrating data from various sources to create a cohesive dataset.
6. Data Security: Implementing robust security measures to protect data integrity and privacy.
Skills & Experience:
1. Extensive Experience: In data engineering, including building and maintaining scalable data systems.
2. Proven Experience: In designing data architectures for complex platforms.
3. Expertise: In data pipeline tools, ETL processes, and database technologies.
4. Programming Skills: Strong programming skills, ideally in Python or other relevant languages.
5. Cloud-Based Solutions: Experience with cloud-based data solutions, with a preference for Azure or similar platforms.
6. Data Governance: Knowledge of data governance, security, and compliance best practices.
7. Modern Data Frameworks: Familiarity with modern data frameworks, such as Apache Spark, Kafka, or similar tools.
8. Problem-Solving: Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive, hands-on approach to challenges.
9. Start-up Experience: Previous experience in an early-stage start-up or dynamic, fast-paced environment is highly desirable.
Qualifications:
1. Education: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
2. Experience: Proven experience as a Data Engineering Architect, Principal Engineer, or similar role with a track record of successful architectural designs.
3. Technical Skills: Proficiency in architectural frameworks, design patterns, and technologies such as data architecture, Microsoft data platforms, ESBs, and microservices architecture.
4. Certifications: Relevant industry certifications such as TOGAF, Certified Data Architect, etc.
