· Prepare for and undertake the protective interventions that they are responsible for in a manner that is consistent with evidence based practice and maintaining patient safety
· Contribute to the management of untoward occurrences, such as cardiac arrest by summoning appropriate assistance as directed, responding to and providing assistance where necessary.
• Act as patients advocate in all matters relating to their care, treatment and welfare acknowledging and incorporating cultural preferences, health beliefs and behaviours.
• Facilitate an environment where health promotion and informed patient choice is encouraged and developed.
• Promote and maintain a culture where staff actively contribute to the clinical governance agenda.
• Ensure compliance with Blood Transfusion policy to ensure a safe service is provided to patients.
• Be pro-active in risk assessment and clinical incident reporting and participate in root cause analysis where required.
• Under supervision of scrub practitioner assist in the management of fluids for irrigation and weighing of surgical swabs. Document in patient pathway.
• Constantly promote the importance of the patient experience within the team, and actively seek the views of patients and carers in the process of evaluating and developing care delivery on the ward/dept.
• Ensure the safety and comfort of patients is maintained, reporting any difficulties encountered promptly to senior nurse/ODP on a particular span of duty.
• Maintain confidentiality at all times
• Assist the registered practitioner in the delivery of personal care for patients and assists in the care of the dying or deceased.
• Care of patients with challenging and aggressive behaviours.
