A temporary vacancy has arisen within University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust for a part-time Band 6 Paediatric Respiratory Clinical Nurse Specialist. This vacancy is for a 12-month fixed term period and a great opportunity for personal and clinical skill development.
The successful candidate will be required to work in collaboration with our Paediatric Respiratory Consultants, existing clinical nurse specialists, children's services staff, children, young people, and their families. The role will predominantly deliver care and support to children and young people using non-invasive ventilation and/or home oxygen therapy across our hospital sites and within their own homes/communities.
We work closely with other specialists in and out of the hospital setting such as paediatricians, community nurses, physiotherapists, dietitians, pharmacists, Neuromuscular care advisors, other Clinical Nurse Specialists, and GPs to ensure we are always providing the best possible care.
We are looking for a highly motivated children's nurse who has experience with children and young people, training and educating parents/carers and has a good understanding and experience of working with children with long-term respiratory conditions.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate excellent skills in communication, organisation, and time management and will be expected to participate in and deliver regular clinical supervision, appraisal, and NMC revalidation.
Main duties of the job
Our Paediatric respiratory service provides friendly, timely, and high-quality care to children and young people who have long-term respiratory conditions. An empathetic and problem-solving approach is essential when assessing and planning ventilatory and oxygen care. An ability to multi-task, effectively manage your own time, and coordinate the delivery of different care processes is essential.
We prescribe, administer, and teach parents/carers to administer home oxygen and non-invasive ventilation care, and we compile comprehensive care and escalation plans in partnership with the Respiratory MDT. An ability to supervise others, teach, and assess competency are essential.
The nursing team works closely with the Consultant team and attends regular MDT meetings for both Paediatric and Adult services. Transition is a key period of change for our young people and this is planned and supported by the nursing team. Good communication and the ability to work well across different teams is essential.
Our specialist nurses support patients and families with the emotional aspects of their condition, helping them to understand it and empowering them to deal with it effectively in their own environments.
If you are interested in service improvement, service development, and personal development we would welcome your application.
