Who we are
Zinc builds automated reference and background checking tools for forward-thinking companies that really care about candidate experience. Founded in 2017, Zinc has a unique approach to background checking that's redefining industry standards. We're an early-stage startup going through rapid growth. Zinc’s founding team have spent years in recruitment, talent, and HRTech. We saw a field plagued with inefficiency, prejudice, and a lack of transparency. We first sought to solve the burden of referencing, then sought to tackle the broader category of background checking.

Life at Zinc is: Focused, Empowered and Trusted.
The Role
The Sales Development Representative (SDR) will be focused on outbound prospecting and converting leads into real opportunities. This is an entry-level role which will lead to either managing teams of SDRs (leader & process optimiser) or becoming an Account Executive (consultative relationship builder & deal closer).
The right person will be a brilliant verbal & written communicator, have a good instinct for social media, understand how people tick, and be willing to embrace the latest technology & data to get the job done. They will also have an entrepreneurial and creative streak with bundles of resilience.
The role will require someone who wants a big commercial tech career, but is eager to learn in a fast growth, scrappy tech environment.
Your first 3 months
* Get comfortable working in a fast-paced tech business
* Learn all about background checking and the Zinc platform
* Generate opportunities using the latest technology and techniques from the tech SaaS world (social selling, automation, multi-channel prospecting, etc.)
At 6 months
* You will be comfortably hitting targets individually as part of an ambitious, fast-growing team.
At 12-18 months
* Begin to explore other responsibilities you can take on to expand your skill set in the tech world
* What is the next step for you?
Who the successful candidate will be
This is an entry-level role, so although some sales or recruitment experience would be helpful, no experience is required.
The most important thing is particular skills and behaviours which we will test for during the process.
Behaviours
There will be a number of behavioural and attitude traits that will allow someone to thrive in the role and in an early stage startup environment.
Entrepreneurial & self-starting
* You always come with possible solutions when you raise a problem.
* You are more interested in solving an issue than working out who is to blame.
* You are constantly looking around for ways to make things better, and help the team win.
A strong sense of personal accountability
* You hold yourself to higher standards than the people around you.
* You want to succeed, and believe that although external factors can make things easier or harder, ultimately the outcomes are within your control.
Coachability, self-improvement driven, always looking to get better, and hungry for knowledge
* You love to learn more and want to improve.
Ambitious
* For their personal career and progression. However, also someone who gets a kick out of collective victory and teamwork.
* You have compelling reasons for wanting to work in sales, not just for a tech startup!
You are kind & have integrity
Skills
* Strong verbal & written communication
o If you can write concisely, persuasively and nearly always get the tone just right, we want to see what you can do.
* A natural storyteller
o Beyond what Zinc is/does and the overall benefits, we want someone who can tell the story that makes the prospect really believe and feel how it’s going to make their lives better.
* Structured, organised and evidence-driven
o Other parts are seeing what works, and checking (not assuming) that something is the right strategy.
Useful Knowledge & Experience
No experience is required (it’s an entry-level role), but some could be useful if you have it.
* It would be great if you have done a bit of sales before, but not necessary.
o Why? - Sales is an emotional rollercoaster and requires resilience. It’s also great to know you like it.
* Exposure to recruitment
o Why? - You’ll be reaching out to Heads of People, Talent & HR. If you have been exposed to that world and understand what people in it want, it’s no bad thing.
* Background checking knowledge
o Why? - A long shot, but if you know about it - great!
* Modern sales techniques and tools (i.e. automation, tech tools).
o We can teach you everything you need to know, but if you know your LinkedIn from your Hubspot already - great!
