Clinical / direct care practice Supplement the care provided to women with complex needs and their families, for example working with women and their midwives to develop individual care plans, and making referrals to additional specialist support where required. Act as an advocate for women to ensure they get the specialist mental health care they need. Leadership and collaborative practice Provide clinical and professional leadership with specialist advice and support in relation to perinatal mental health. Develop and maintain a basic working knowledge of mental health legislation, policy and guidance. Provide a link between midwives, GPs, health visitors, obstetricians, specialist mental health services and other agencies in relation to the care of pregnant women and new mothers with mental health problems. Improving quality and developing practice Maintain awareness and application of relevant research and evidence based practice relating to area of clinical expertise and profession practice.
