As Principal Fire Officer, you will assume a pivotal role in the development, implementation, and oversight of comprehensive fire safety programs and policies. Your primary objective will be ensuring the safety and security of patients, staff, visitors, and NHS facilities. This role encompasses critical responsibilities such as the thorough assessment and mitigation of fire risks, the facilitation of training and fire drills, and effective communication with pertinent authorities and stakeholders.
Main duties of the job
Duties of your role will include:
* Conduct thorough fire risk assessments across NHS facilities, identifying potential hazards, and recommending corrective actions to minimize risks.
* Organise and provide fire safety training and education programs for staff and contractors, ensuring they are aware of fire safety protocols and procedures.
* Coordinate and lead fire drills and exercises to evaluate emergency response plans, and develop strategies to improve preparedness.
* Provide expert technical advice on fire safety legislation and on the application and interpretation of fire safety HTM guidance, including Firecode to senior management, including the Director of Estates and Facilities.
* Management of Fire Safety Department and delivery of fire safety objectives.

Person specification
Knowledge
* Extensive knowledge of fire safety legislation and regulations, as well as the NHS Fire Safety Code.
* Proven ability to develop and implement effective fire safety policies and procedures.
* Experience in the development and delivery of fire safety training packages to meet NHS requirements, especially emergency evacuation.
* Experience of managing fire safety budgets.
Skills
* Ability to complete complex fire investigations and the development of investigation reports.
* Skill to communicate and explain fire legislation, risks, investigations, reports, etc., to Fire Safety Committee and internal or external stakeholders.
* Ability to develop and monitor action plans to mitigate identified fire risks.
* Understanding of the specific fire safety challenges faced by the NHS.
Qualifications
* Level 3 Award in Adult Education or specialist knowledge within the field.
* Master's Degree, equivalent professional qualifications, and/or substantial demonstrable experience in a similar role or setting.
* Professional Registration with either: IFE, NAFSO, AFSM, FPA, IOSH.
