The main duties of the job:
1. Responsible for the examination, investigation, diagnosis and treatment of acutely unwell general medical patients.
2. To work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
3. Contribute to both general paediatric outpatient clinics and Rapid Access clinics.
4. Responsible for all inpatients admitted under medical team referred by the GP or emergency department until discharged.
5. Provide advice and clinical consultation to other inpatient services as appropriate (e.g., general surgery).
6. Support the GP Hotline as part of consultant of the week to advise local primary care providers in paediatric case management.
7. Liaise with senior colleagues to ensure the provision of effective paediatric clinical services.
8. Teach and train medical students and junior staff (medical and nursing) within the department and wards.
9. Contribute to Clinical Governance activities in the Department.
10. Participate in improvement initiatives in the Department (e.g., implementation of National Guidance).
Applicant Requirements:
The applicant should be in possession of a CCT in Paediatrics or be within six months of achieving a CCT in Paediatrics and should have completed SPIN Module for Diabetes as per RCPCH guidelines.
Accountability:
The post holder will report through the Clinical Director for Acute Care Group to the Chief Executive with professional support from the Medical Director.
