The Principal Clinical/Counselling Psychologist will be responsible for the delivery of a specialised Clinical Psychology service to older people referred to the Inverclyde Mental Health Care Home Liaison Service. The postholder will provide highly specialist psychological assessment and intervention, including Stress & Distress in Dementia, at the same time as offering advice and consultation on care home residents’ psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and professional carers, working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team’s policies and procedures. You will be a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist with knowledge, skills and experience gained from working with a variety of client groups, across the whole life course, presenting with the full range of clinical severity in a range of care settings; preferably with experience of working in specialist Older People’s Mental Health Services and Care Home Liaison Services. You will have experience of undertaking clinical leadership roles within multi-disciplinary or multi-agency contexts; and providing consultation and supervision to colleagues on psychological aspects of care. You will be a member of the Greater Glasgow and Clyde (GG&C) Older People’s Psychology Service, which provides a highly specialist service to older people within the GG&C board area. The mental health arm of the service is delivered through participation in Community Mental Health Teams for Older People around the health board area. The department also includes an Acute Hospital Liaison Clinical Psychology Service for older people in acute hospital settings; a Young Onset Dementia Service; a Care Home Liaison Psychology Service in Glasgow HSCP; the OPTIMAL Team, tasked with widening access to evidence-based psychological interventions/psychological therapies across GG&C; and an In-patient Older People’s Psychology Team. You will be a member of this Psychology Department and will deliver a psychology service to older people following referral by colleagues to the Inverclyde Mental Health Care Home Liaison Service
Professional leadership and operational management is via the Older People’s Psychology Service and the Psychology Directorate. It is essential that you have post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS or HCPC, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology. You should currently be registered with the HCPC. The post holder may be required to provide clinical psychology input across the service area and at different bases as required
