Contract Type: Permanent (Full-Time)
Hours: 40 hours per week (Monday – Thursday 0700 hrs to 1600 hrs with half an hour unpaid lunch break and Friday 0700 hrs to 1300 hrs)
Reporting to: Mechanical Supervisor
Main responsibilities
1. Ensure PPM’s are completed to schedules set by Mechanical Supervisor for the area.
2. Complete work orders issued to them from their supervisor in a safe and timely manner, also updating work orders on the system and in person on completion.
3. React to day-to-day issues within the specific area of responsibility, seeking assistance from above only if extra knowledge and experience on the issue is required.
4. Regularly communicate to all levels on work progress.
5. Support the direct Supervisor and attend meetings as required.
6. Complete end of day checks in and around the mechanical workshop to ensure all cupboards are locked up, bins emptied, tools stored away, and carry out general housekeeping duties.
7. React accordingly to any faults/breakdowns occurring during standard operation time and carry out troubleshooting/fault finding in cooperation with your workforces.
8. Co-ordinate and accomplish mechanical maintenance and repair work of all equipment, installations, and machinery.
9. Ensure all goods in parts are dealt with in a timely manner and either booked in or organised for a specific shutdown task.
10. Support the Mechanical Engineering Supervisor with planning and accomplishing related projects.
11. Maintain all required records, documents, and certification.
12. Carry out overhauls of equipment in a modern mechanical workshop.
13. Carry out weld repairs to plant pipework.
14. Conduct pump changes, roll changes, and general heavy mechanical works within a team of trained and experienced mechanical engineers.
15. On-call service in case of breakdowns in accordance with company procedures and policies for the agreed on-call plan.
16. The jobholder may be required to carry out additional tasks as instructed by the Head of Mechanical Engineering and/or his/her deputy.
Specific responsibilities
The Mechanical Engineer is workshop based and will be issued with a full set of tools to enable them to carry out the tasks given. Assist in the maintenance of a safe and healthy working environment and ensure that all equipment is used in accordance with H&S regulations and company rules. Use resources as efficiently as possible and ensure that all activities are done in compliance with all legal regulations for environmental protection. The jobholder is requested to maintain the process-related housekeeping standard for all equipment and installations at the highest level. Specific required housekeeping actions could be requested at any time (e.g. cleaning of chests, tanks, heat recovery installation, floors, framing, etc.) or could be done on one’s own initiative.
Knowledge, skills, and experiences required:
Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship or similar.
A minimum of five years’ experience in a Mechanical Engineering position.
Ideally, experience with fork trucks, MEWPS (mobile elevating work platforms), overhead cranes, confined spaces, welding, and machining.
