Advanced Pharmacist - Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT)

You will deliver and develop pharmacy services to cancer patients and in particular, Haematology and Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT). You will be supported by our CMG lead pharmacists, Consultant Pharmacist Haematology and newly appointed principal pharmacist in Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs). UHL is committed to the development of Consultant Pharmacy practice, with five consultants in post, including Haematology and Oncology & Clinical Trials. If you are a prescriber you will have the opportunity to undertake clinics within a specific area. Our Cancer Centre, based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary site serves a population of over 1 million and is at the forefront of research and clinical innovation; incorporating a Phase I trials unit, Stem Cell Transplant Unit and commissioned CAR-T service.
Main duties of the job
The post holder leads, delivers, develops, manages and evaluates the clinical pharmacy services for HSCT unit. Acts as named lead and retains responsibility for the operational management and oversight of the HSCT unit. To work closely with ATMP pharmacist to safely implement the introduction and use of ATMPs, e.g. CAR-T cell therapy for haematological malignancies. To work closely with the Haematology pharmacist in the service with the view to maintain an overview of the activities of permanent and rotational staff in the pharmacy team, to ensure adequate cover for the provision of pharmacy services across Haematology directorate.
Job responsibilities
To ensure appropriate training/supervision processes are in place for clinical pharmacists for the HSCT unit. To act as a leadership role model for pharmacy staff. To assist in the development of the training strategies to meet the training and development needs of staff. To lead and manage pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and support staff working within the area, ensuring that service goals linked to HSCT unit are achieved in line with priorities set by the pharmacy leadership team, CMG management teams and Trust Board. To work with the CMG lead Pharmacists and Consultant Haematology pharmacist for the development of clinical pharmacy services. Providing expert pharmaceutical advice to improve patients care both for inpatient and outpatient setting. Clinically verify chemotherapy prescriptions and SACT treatments to provide safe, cost effective and evidence based treatments for patients. To co-ordinate the management and development of the team delivering specialist clinical pharmacy and aseptic services to Cancer & Haematology patients. To work as an Independent prescriber and prescribe and review medication for therapeutic effectiveness, appropriate to patient needs and in accordance with evidence-based practice and national and practice protocols, and within scope of practice.
Person Specification
* GPhC registration
* Diploma or demonstrated equivalent clinical knowledge and experience
Skills and Abilities
* Ability to influence and negotiate with relevant senior clinicians and managers
* Ability to demonstrate achievement of set goals
Experience
* Significant recent post-registration experience in hospital pharmacy
* Able to demonstrate advanced specialist clinical pharmacy knowledge and expertise in area of specialty
* Evidence of involvement in service development
* Experience of leading and working in multidisciplinary teams at a senior level
* Attendance on clinician ward rounds
* Experience of working in specialty
* Experience of supervision/management of staff
