Job Profile
The Design Manager will lead the design and engineering team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, custom solutions that align with customer requirements and regulatory standards. This role involves overseeing all aspects of design, from concept development to production handover, while driving innovation and maintaining a strong focus on quality and efficiency.
Responsibilities / Duties
* Lead and manage the design team, ensuring alignment with project requirements and timelines.
* Oversee the creation of engineering drawings, including general arrangements (GA) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
* Ensure compliance with technical specifications, industry standards, and company procedures.
* Collaborate with the sales and proposals teams to ensure designs meet customer specifications and are cost-effective.
* Manage design reviews and approvals, ensuring all deliverables meet the required standards.
* Support the estimation and costing of materials and labor for proposals.
* Oversee the selection of materials, systems, and components to suit application needs.
* Ensure designs account for manufacturing processes, safety, and operational efficiency.
* Provide technical support during production, addressing any design-related queries.
* Conduct risk assessments and mitigate potential design issues.
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the design department.
* Maintain accurate design documentation and ensure data integrity across all projects.
Education
* Essential: Degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline.
* Desirable: Advanced qualifications in design engineering or project management.
Experience and Knowledge
* Essential: Proven experience in a design engineering role, preferably in the manufacturing or engineering sector.
* Experience with rotating machinery, fluid handling systems, or custom equipment design.
* Knowledge of industry standards such as API, ISO, and ATEX.
* Desirable: Familiarity with blower packages, piping systems, or process equipment.
Skills and Attributes
* Exceptional leadership and team management skills.
* Strong understanding of engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
* Proficiency in CAD software and other engineering design tools.
