This position reports to:
R&D Corporate Executive Engineer
Your role and responsibilities
In this role, you will contribute significantly to project results in technology, software, product, and/or solution development, including associated Intellectual Property (IP). You will serve as the first point of contact in Research and Development for specific product-related issues and maintenance, while identifying, proposing, and implementing innovative solutions. The work model is hybrid in Memphis, TN. Your main responsibilities include:
1. Define the progression of our Electrical & Software Technology Roadmap to support product evolution and new adjacencies.
2. Maintain knowledge of emerging technologies, processes, controls, connectivity, and advancements across industries that enhance ELIP's competitive advantage.
3. Collaborate with Product Management and Business Development to focus R&D on high-value customer needs and drive value creation.
4. Lead cross-functional product ideation sessions, utilizing innovation frameworks to generate innovative concepts.
5. Develop proof of concept prototypes to verify new innovations.
6. Assist in integrating innovations into the product development process through established gate procedures.
7. Identify new suppliers offering innovative technologies not currently available within the division.
8. Suggest acquisition targets to expand ELIP's market coverage or vertical integration.
9. Work with engineering teams to improve and streamline pre-Gate 0 product development activities.
10. Mentor engineers to foster open and innovative thinking.
Qualifications for the role
* A Master's Degree in engineering, mathematics, or science, or an MBA with an engineering bachelor’s degree.
* Minimum of 8 years of product experience demonstrating innovative thinking.
* A curious nature with a drive to discover solutions for unmet customer needs, including proposing and testing hypothetical solutions.
* Comfort with ambiguous situations and the ability to identify new solutions.
* Strong facilitation skills to draw out diverse perspectives and coach teams.
* Understanding of business case analysis, including market value, costs, sales, and investments.
* Knowledge of IP processes, development, and acquisition strategies.
* Must have valid work authorization for the US to work at ABB.
