Location: Ellesmere Port & Surrounding Areas Salary: £26,250 per year Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week (Monday – Friday, 08:00 – 18:00) On-call rota: Approx. every 10 weeks Company car provided (UK driving licence required) About the Role Serco, on behalf of the Home Office, manages the Asylum Accommodation and Support Services Contract (AASC) across the North West. Our mission is to support vulnerable asylum seekers by ensuring they have access to safe, high-quality housing and essential services. As a Housing Officer, you’ll play a key role in ensuring our accommodation meets the required standards. You’ll oversee properties across Ellesmere Port, Chester, and surrounding areas, carrying out inspections, handling minor repairs, and supporting service users. This is a dynamic role that requires excellent people skills, resilience, and the ability to stay calm under pressure. What You’ll Be Doing Conducting monthly property inspections to ensure compliance with AASC standards Managing the onboarding and withdrawal of properties Reporting and categorising property faults for resolution Carrying out minor repairs using your provided toolkit Administering operational cash (e.g., topping up utility meters, emergency payments) Responding to and resolving customer complaints Participating in an emergency on-call system on a rota basis What We’re Looking For Previous experience as a Housing Officer is ideal, but we also welcome candidates with property management experience or a background working with vulnerable individuals Strong communication and conflict resolution skills The ability to handle challenging situations, such as anti-social behaviour, safeguarding concerns, and medical needs A full UK driving licence (essential for traveling between properties) Ability to pass a Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) check and Home Office security clearance Why Serco A place you can make an impact - The nature of our business means you will do interesting work that matters – delivering essential services that touch people’s lives.
