This is a very exciting opportunity for an experienced, motivated and forward thinking Orthoptist with good clinical experience and knowledge, along with excellent communication skills to join our friendly team of 7 Orthoptists, 10 Ophthalmologists and 7 Optometrists currently based at the National Treatment Centre - Highland, Inverness.
We are a busy department covering the largest Health Board area in Scotland with a full complex caseload of all types of Orthoptic patients. We are also involved with the Glaucoma Monitoring Service.
The department covers several peripheral clinics and provides a comprehensive Pre-school Orthoptic Vision Screening Service throughout the remote and rural communities of the Highlands, Western Isles and Orkney.
The post holder will therefore have the opportunity to see the Highlands of Scotland travelling by road, air and sea with occasional overnight stays to meet the service needs. There is therefore a requirement for the applicant to be flexible and adaptive to a variety of working environments and hours of work and a full driving licence is required.
The National Treatment Centre - Highland is a state-of-the-art Eye Care Centre based on the University of Highlands & Islands Inverness Campus. Using a patient centred approach, we are continuously developing the service to meet the needs of our population and we are looking for compassionate thoughtful team players who are keen to extend their professional scope of practice working in a team environment where education and quality improvement are essential to service delivery. We are a BIOS accredited placement site for Orthoptic undergraduates.
The post requires a diploma / degree in Orthoptics with current HCPC registration. We will consider applications from newly qualified practitioners as well as experienced orthoptists. New graduates will be expected to start on Band 5 and complete the NHS Flying Start programme. Mentorship will be provided and over the course of 24 months the post holder should progress to Band 6 to fulfil the role requirements.
This is a permanent full-time post of 37 hours working as per service requirements
