We seek a dynamic and inspiring teacher of Art & Design to join our vibrant Art department. All students study Art in KS3, with many engaging in our Specialist Enrichment curriculum. We offer an extensive programme leading to GCSE and A levels in Fine Art, which are both popular choices with our students.
This post is suitable for an experienced practitioner (with the offer of a TLR for Key Stage responsibility).
Responsibilities;
• To teach students according to their educational needs, including the setting and marking of work to be carried out by the student in school and elsewhere;
• To assess, record and report on the attendance, progress, development and attainment of students and to keep such records as are required;
• To ensure a high quality teaching and learning experience for students; this must meet internal and external quality standards;
• To maintain discipline in accordance with the school’s procedures, and to encourage good practice with regard to punctuality, behaviour, standards of work and homework;
• To undertake assessment of students’ work as requested by external examination bodies, departmental and school procedures
• To implement and deliver an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for students studying Art & Design
• To provide extra-curricular enrichment activities, including organising and accompanying appropriate field studies to comply with the requirements of the National Curriculum and external examination syllabuses;
• To monitor and support the overall progress and development of students as a teacher/Form Tutor;
• To facilitate and encourage a learning experience which provides students with the opportunity to achieve their individual potential;
• To contribute to raising standards of student attainment;
• To assist the Head of Department to ensure that the curriculum area provides a range of teaching which complements the school’s strategic objectives;
• To assist in the process of curriculum development and changes so as to ensure the continued relevance to the needs of students, examining and awarding bodies and the school’s Aims and Strategic Objectives;
• To contribute to the Art & Design Improvement Plan;
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential Qualifications
• Qualified Teacher Status
• Qualifications to teach Art & Design up to an advanced level
Competencies & Skills
• A passion for Art & Design and for inspiring others to achieve highly;
• Evidence of effective and successful teaching of Art & Design across a wide range of ability, preferably in an inner city school; (this could be on teaching practice).
• A good track record of raising standards in Art & Design
• Knowledge and understanding of the processes by which students can achieve highly
• Excellent organisational skills;
• Ability to analyse and use data to set and monitor targets;
• A creative approach to engage and inspire students;
• Good I.C.T. skills;
• Excellent inter-personal and communication skills in speech and writing.
Personal Traits
• An excellent record of attendance and punctuality.
• Ability to be proactive, self-starting, enthusiastic and committed.
• Ability to work under own initiative and take ownership for key tasks.
